Appointments

To book an appointment:

At Westongrove we offer two types of appointments:

  • On the day urgent appointments.
  • Pre-Bookable routine appointments – for those patients who want to book more than two days and up to four weeks ahead.

Urgent Appointments

Should you require an urgent appointment, the receptionist will enquire if you have tried to use the Ask First App if you are over the age of 16.

The Ask First App can give medical advice and signpost you to other healthcare providers or it can book you a telephone appointment with a clinician, subject to availability. If you cannot use the Ask First App, the receptionist will ask for a brief description of the problem. The receptionist may check if you have consulted with a pharmacist or other health care provider if this is appropriate.

If an urgent appointment is required, the receptionist will take your details including your phone number. All urgent appointments are telephoned by a healthcare professional in the first instance. These appointments are subject to availability in order to ensure our health professionals work within safe limits. Our Urgent Care team comprises of an Urgent Care Co-ordinator, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Minor Illness Nurses, HCA’s, Paramedics, Physiotherapists and GPs. If an appointment is required you will be offered one the same day.

Pre-Bookable Appointments

There are also telephone or face to face appointments available which can be booked up to 4 weeks in advance. This option is helpful if you need to plan ahead. We encourage patients to book appointments with their accountable GP to help provide continuity of care. If your GP is not available, the reception team can help advise on the alternatives available at the time of your call. Please note all appointments are subject to availability.

Signposting

Westongrove operates a system called ‘Signposting’. This is a software programme used by the reception team that has been written by the Doctors. It points a patient towards the most appropriate member of the clinical team based upon their current ailment / reason for wanting to book an appointment. Therefore when you contact the surgery our reception staff will ask you why you would like to book an appointment and it is most helpful if you can give them a reason.
