Swine Flu Update

Swine Flu Vaccnation Update

Travelling to the Southern Hemisphere?

As of 18th March 2010, the Department of Health, based on expert advice from the Joint Committee on Immunisation and Vaccination, advises that H1N1 influenza vaccination should be offered to all travellers to countries in the Southern hemisphere during their flu season (April - September), this includes travel to the Football World Cup in South Africa and other countries such as Australia and New Zealand. Vaccination should be completed two weeks before travel to enable an adequate immune response.

If you are travelling to these areas, please contact the practice as soon as possible  and ask for a Travel Vaccination Form, or you can download one from this website. Please look under the tab 'Clinics and Services' for the form. Once completed please return the form, and our travel nurses will contact you to confirm vaccination costs and arrange a suitable appointment.

More information can be found at www.nathnac.org

We have now invited all the patients who fall into the priority groups as identified by the Department of Health.

  • Patients aged 6 months and over who fall into the seasonal flu chronic disease groups
  • Immunocompromised patients and their household contacts
  • Pregnant women
  • All children aged over 6 months and under 5 years

For further details about the priority groups please see the Seasonal Flu Vaccine tab to the right of this page.

There are currently no plans to vaccinate patients over the age of 65 who do not fall into the seasonal flu priority groups. If there is an update to this guideline from the Department of Health, we will notify our patients as soon as possible.

The vaccination programme for the Under 5 year olds has now closed.

CHILDREN UNDER 10 YEARS OLD - DOSE ADVICE HAS NOW CHANGED

We have received notification from Buckinghamshire Primary Care Trust that children under the age of 10 years, should receive one 0.25ml dose of Pandemrix instead of two as previously advised. We will endeavour to contact the parents/carers of all children booked into a clinic for a second dose in order to notify them that they no longer need to attend. All future appointments made will be for one dose only.
