Pharmacy Contraception Service

If you’re already taking oral contraception (the pill) or looking for your first supply, you can now arrange a confidential consultation at a local participating pharmacy.

Convenient Access to Contraception Through Your Local Pharmacy

The NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service provides a convenient and confidential way to access oral contraceptive pills through participating local pharmacies. This service allows eligible patients to start or continue the contraceptive pill without the need for a GP appointment. Patients can be referred by their GP for their annual contraceptive pill review, making it easier to stay up to date with their contraception safely and efficiently. Trained pharmacists will carry out a consultation and provide expert advice and ongoing support.

What to expect…

During your appointment with the pharmacist, you will have a private and confidential consultation where the pharmacist will discuss your medical history, any current medications, and your contraception needs. They will check for any health conditions or risk factors to ensure the contraceptive pill is safe and suitable for you. The pharmacist will answer any questions you may have, provide advice on how to take the pill correctly, and discuss what to do if you experience any side effects. If appropriate, they will supply your contraceptive pills and arrange follow-up support to help you manage your contraception effectively.
