Prescription Information

Due to a huge increase in demand for prescriptions and our own staff shortages, please allow 5-7 days for us to process your prescription – including through our dispensary. Local pharmacies are also struggling with demand and require similar times to process. Please bear with us during this challenging time, we are working very hard to keep our systems going. Thank you for your support.

Why does it take AT LEAST 2 working days to process a repeat prescription request?

Our receptionist has to check your medical records to ensure that your medication request is on your repeat prescription list, and then pass it to our clinical team. Between clinics, one of our clinical team will double check the medication to ensure that it is still appropriate for you and sign it. The prescription will then be filed ready for collection or passed to the pharmacy to be dispensed.

If you make an electronic prescription request it will be forwarded electronically to the GP to be checked and signed and then it will be sent electronically to the pharmacy who download it to their system to dispense the medication.

Delays may occur if your medication request is not on your repeat prescription or if your medication request is different from what your doctor has prescribed for you or if they wish to change your medication.

Once the prescriptions have left the surgery, either physically or electronically, we have no control over how long it takes to be dispensed by the pharmacy. Recent changes to prescription processing have resulted in the pharmacy needing longer to process prescriptions.

Emergency prescription requests

If you have forgotten to order a repeat prescription and you feel you need your medication urgently please either contact your pharmacist, who can request this for you electronically and in some situations will be able to give you an emergency supply until the prescription has been raised, or you can make a request as “urgent” which we will try to fulfill as quickly as possible.

Emergency prescription requests are requests for medication which you need within 1 working day to prevent you becoming severely unwell.

Please see below for what may be included as Emergency medications.
