Why We Research?
Here at Westongrove Partnership, we are active members of the NIHR Clinical Research Network Thames Valley.
We believe that research plays a vital role in improving how we prevent, diagnose, and treat illnesses—delivering better care for our patients today and in the future.
Our research lead is Dr Ashish Patel
National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is the research arm of the NHS. It works to improve health and care by funding and supporting high-quality research across the UK. The NIHR helps doctors, nurses, and researchers find better ways to prevent illness, diagnose conditions earlier, and provide more effective treatments. At Westongrove Partnership, we’re proud to be part of this network—bringing opportunities for our patients to take part in cutting-edge research that shapes the future of healthcare.
Is Research Right for You?
Participation in research is entirely voluntary. You may choose to take part—or not—and it will have no impact on the care you receive.
Every study is reviewed by ethics committees and adheres to strict GDPR and data protection guidelines, ensuring confidentiality and patient rights.

How can you help and take part?
There are several ways you might be invited to take part in a research study at Westongove:
- Your GP or nurse may talk to you during an appointment about a study that could be relevant to your health, and ask if you’d like to take part.
- You might receive a letter or text if we think you may be suitable for a particular study.
- You may see posters or leaflets in our waiting room or read about a study on our website, and decide to get in touch if you’re interested.
All research studies run through our surgeries are carefully reviewed and approved by independent ethics committees to make sure they are safe, appropriate, and respectful of your rights.
Taking part in research is completely voluntary. You’re under no obligation to say yes, and you can change your mind and withdraw at any time, without needing to give a reason.
Your decision will not affect your care or your relationship with your doctor in any way.
If you’re invited to take part, you’ll be given clear information about what the study involves. You’ll have the chance to ask questions and find out everything you need to know before deciding.
If you agree to join a study, you’ll be asked to sign a consent form, which will explain exactly how your information will be used.
No one outside the practice will be given access to your medical records or contact details without your permission.
